The problem: The mine was producing 700 000 tons of iron ore per year in 2013. For 2014 the mine had to ramp production up to 1 million tons of ore while reducing cost.


The Intervention: We implemented the Production Flow intervention and enabled the mine to reach the required production rates within four months. 


Results:  Yearly ore production for 2014 increased by 57% to 1.1m tons, total tons mined went up 20% (from 27.5 to 33m tons).  At the contracted $85/ton this translates to $10,4 million extra to the bottom line. At the end of this year, the mine beat its larger sister mines and took the prizes for the best grade and process control, best production improvement and best safety performance.
