Los Bronces:
Open cut copper

Problem: Los Bronces is one of the largest open-cut copper mines in the world. One of its pits was particularly problematic, with the classic stop-start flow, and the operation struggled to hold production at the planned level.

 

Intervention: The Stratflow Production Flow process was implemented in 2017.

 

Result: Within three months, production rose from an average of 180,000 tonnes per day to 240,000 tonnes per day, an increase of 33 per cent.
